Thailand is blessed with dozens of dreamy islands—but not all are created equal. After weeks of salty hair, sun-soaked naps, and underwater adventures, we’ve narrowed it down to our top three. Whether you’re a diver, a beach bum, or a hammock-loving family traveler, here’s your go-to guide for choosing your perfect slice of island paradise.
No. 3: Koh Tao – For Snorkelers, Sunset Watchers & Budding Pirates

Welcome to Koh Tao, aka the Turtle Island. With its laid-back vibe and underwater treasures, it’s a dream for families and anyone ready to fall in love with the sea.
We kicked off our stay with mango coladas and spring rolls at the Koh Tao Beach Club, where the green-tinted pool blended beautifully into the jungle backdrop. Then came the main event: a snorkeling day around the island’s best spots.
Five stops, five slices of paradise. Armed with masks and fins, we dove into vibrant coral gardens and schools of tropical fish. The sea was so clear, we could see every detail—right down to the colorful parrotfish munching on coral.
We also spent a lazy day at Freedom Beach, the kind of place that feels like a postcard come to life. Picture this: dappled shade from old trees, hundreds of curious fish, coconut in one hand, grilled fish in the other… and a hammock swinging in the breeze. Bliss.
Bonus tip: If you’re craving some party energy, Koh Tao pairs perfectly with nearby Koh Phangan—especially during the Full Moon Festival.

No. 2: Koh Kood – Thailand’s Best-Kept Beach Secret

If your dream island has zero crowds, endless white sand, and massages by the sound of waves, Koh Kood is calling your name.
Getting there? It’s a bit of a trek—planes, buses, and boats—but trust us, it’s worth every minute. The moment we landed, the vibe shifted. Slow days, smiling locals, and seafood so fresh it practically swims onto your plate.
We had dinner at 4pm (yes, Thai island life has its own rhythm) in a floating fishing village. It was a mix of bamboo walkways, makeshift kitchens, and the most delicious just-caught crab and prawns.
Our top beaches?
Ao Phrao Beach: Two kilometers of pure powdery sand and calm turquoise waters. Perfect for long swims… or long naps.
Bang Bao Beach: Our favorite! Quiet, peaceful, and ideal for lazy strolls between a cocktail and a handful of cashews.
Need a recharge? This is where you’ll find it.

No. 1: Koh Phi Phi – For Divers, Party People & Nighttime Magic

Ah, Koh Phi Phi. Love it or hate it, this island buzzes with energy, life, and just the right dose of chaos. If you're into diving, nightlife, or both—this is the island for you.
As soon as we arrived, we jumped on a boat to Long Beach, home to the famous Shark Point. Yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like. Thousands of fish, little moray eels… and Perrine saw a real blacktip reef shark. Not a baby either. Just a few meters away. Cue mild panic and wide eyes all around (except for Tulio, who sadly missed the show).
Not to be outdone, Tulio decided to go all in and take his Open Water diving course. Over a few days, he mastered underwater rescues, buoyancy control, and decompression stops—and aced the final test with a near-perfect score. Now he's certified to dive up to 18 meters deep, solo and smiling.
The adventure didn’t stop there. We caught a fiery sunset from the boat and then dove into the sea at night to witness one of nature’s wildest shows: bioluminescent plankton.
Move your arms, kick your legs—and suddenly, you’re swimming through stardust. These tiny organisms flash with light when disturbed, a defense mechanism that turns the ocean into a glowing galaxy.
It’s surreal. It’s unforgettable. It’s Koh Phi Phi.
